Things get going with Sun

Finally, I formed a team for the Sun Club. well it really took lot of time, as i had started the process as early as 19th Jan. But with the kind of busy schedule at IITR, this is the least you can expect. but, yes, i am quite happy today, as something tangible, something positive is now done after so much sluggishness on my part. I have selected 5 people for the team Abhinav, Abhshek, Divye, Varun and Venkatram. I think they are quite suitable and can perform, may be even better than me.
My being late in such works basically shows what a slow mover i am. It was only after i got some alarm call from my Sun coordinator that I woke up and realized that "I am really late and i had not conducted a single demo this month (ok i had done the same last month, so what new have i done this month by not giving a demo...can anyone ask this to my coordinator).
Anyways, I held my first meeting with my team and realised that i really had no time to have the demo. Finally i decided to fix the date to Sunday, 3rd Feb 3 to 5 p.m. (it's not fixed). But a demo at such a short notice!!! But i ha no other option. I have to do it (else loose my credibility at Sun and loose the confidence of my coordinator). Mooreover, i havent prepared anything till now and just waisting the time by blogging. Moreover i have lots of more work to do like inviting the professors, arranging for the Audi, getting the posters etc. For posters, I think i will have to spend it from my own side for the time being, as i haven't yet got access to SWAN (Sun Wide Area Network). Well, lets see how much successful this is going to be. Really excited with it, and a bit nervous too. wish me luck!!!! thanks.

go techie!!!

Geek!!! yeah, that's what they call them. well i am certainly not one. But recently I came across a big list of ideologies and abbreviations in the techworld(read geek world) that can certainly make you feel I am. starting from open source to free software foundation(FSF), from GNU ("GNU's not Unix" what the hell does that mean) to nonGNU, to EJB, JSR, CLDC, MIDC, VMW, Dtrace, ZFS, ABC, DEF, GHI....o sorry, i went wrong somewhere in the middle. it's like trying to permute all alphabets in all possible ways. Can't we get single word technologies. It's really hard tothat's really what Geekness is. 'hope i can be one of those deadly hackers who could get into the Pentagon database anytime they wanted (remember 'Swordfish'?).

The Sun Thing

So, what really is this sun thing that's eating me up? well, dont worry, this is not my frustration that speaks, as some of you might think. In fact, to their dismay, I am really enjoying it. This campus ambassador program is really teaching me a lot, not only in terms of tech, but also in terms of planning and implementing my ideas. Sun teaches me multitasking (may be better than Ankush), doing lots of thing at the same time. And this degree of multitasking (or CPU usage) increases as I get out of my private scope. I agree that i am not that fast a thinker. But, sun takes everything out of me. It's the passion i had been searching for years (of course after JEE). Yes, passion is something I always rely upon when i have to give my best. No passion, means no positive output. Ok, now, i gotta go. Lots of sun work pending.

The Recap

This is my first blog entry. Having completed two and a half years of life at IIT Roorkee, I think it won't be fair to start the blog journey without a historical perspective, as we have in all our text books. So I dedicate this entry to what I have been doing the previous years.
I came to IIT Roorkee with a vision. And some hidden dreams. But being an introvert, I could not take them out. Dreams remained dreams. Nightmares added. The first year for me was in roaming (though I never paid the roaming charges). I maintained a public life. But never got the private attention. I was a Rhithik Roshan without any Lakshya. But I hated NCC unlike him. He messed with his girlfriend, I with my grades. Awarding a D to a national volunteer like me was one of the most thankless response I have ever seen from a respected national organization like NCC. It was probably my second biggest mistake to have joined NCC that year. Don't ask me the first (I hate to tell this, some of my friends will know). After this, I never watched a military or a war movie.
The second year was started at a negative note. Being allotted the Ganga Bhawan wasn't enough, so we were thrown into our good old Rajendra Bhawan, due to some hi-tech construction work going on at Ganga. And under the regimes of King RPM, only we knew how did we survive in the refugees like conditions. But we adapted as usual. Those were the times when hours passed as I, with other like minded people (read friends) exhausted myself day and night out with silly things. I hope you can guess what I mean by silly things, though I would hate to specify them here. The day used to start at 11 a.m., with tea-biscuits at the stupid Lipton Stall. That was followed by a group newspaper reading under the sun. Post lunch time used to be devoted to some lan searching, aimed to find the smallest updates in the network since the last search, some 12 hours back. It was this that resulted in 50% consumption of my hard disk by funny videos, chotu games i.e. pocket tanks, volley and so on... and not to forget a pile of useless software. This time was also devoted to some personal game playing like GTA Vice City, Max Payne, Cricket 05 etc. That done, time for the canteen! Another one hour gone. And then starts the war. A group of patriotic bomb defusers and black commandos against the Osama led terrorist group. Counter Terrorist vs Terrorist. Though I never liked counter strike, I had to play for the sake of the like (or unlike in this context) minded people. This sessions was usually interrupted by a visit to our good old canteen. Another one hour gone, followed by a post war analysis, which again took around one hour. And that marked the end of the day.
Enter third year, enter Govind Bhawan. We were like freshers in the third year. Flashback over. Thanks for reading this useless history, keep yourself updated with my blog entries, if you have more of the useless time. Good day.
